COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
AND
WHO WE ARE

Welcome to The Olive Branch Review

We’re Building Something Together

We’re not just a website where you dump your writing and hope someone reads it. We’re a community. That means we’re all in this together. Learning, growing, stumbling, celebrating, and figuring out how to get better.

If you’re here, you probably love words. Maybe you’re trying to wrangle them into poetry, or stories, or essays, or something that doesn’t fit neatly into any category. That’s cool. We welcome all of it.

But for this to work—for us to actually be a community and not just a bunch of people shouting into the void—we need to show up for each other. Here’s what that looks like.

Here at the Olive Branch Review, inclusivity is our number one priority. Everyone is welcome (unless you are a bot). Our goal is to provide a space where anyone can share their original works of writing. In order to foster a safe community, here are the basic rules we ask our members to follow.

DO: Post constructive feedback. The goal should always be to help others improve their writing.

DON’T: Post smarmy feedback with the goal of proving how smart you are.

DO: Use your personal review as a space to grow as a writer.

DON’T: Post your own work without ever engaging with the works of your peers.

DO: Exercise your right to free speech.

DON’T: Use any form of hate speech or take part in any form of discrimination. Our moderators take down very little, but we will remove works that are deemed harmful. We encourage any concerns regarding content on this site to be brought to the contact page for review.

DO: Tag your posts appropriately. Be as descriptive as possible to help interested parties find your writing. If your work is a piece of fanfiction, please use the tag #fanfiction and clearly tag the source material.

DON’T: Spam the website in any form. Tags, comments, anything. We know it when we see it. It will be taken down.

DO: Give credit to your sources appropriately. When writing nonfiction, name your preferred citation method (ex. MLA, APA) and list your sources in correct format at the end of your work or you will be at risk of your work being under review or deleted.

Always remember we are a small community, and we need your help to improve. Please reach out to us here with any questions or concerns.
