About
E.R. Escober worked as a copywriter before dedicating significant time and energy to launching a freelance writing career. He wrote several screenplays, a Filipino cookbook novel titled Not My Bowl of Rice, a parody of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code titled The Givenchy Code, and a story about a blogger/social media influencer who is also a psychic/medium titled The Facebook Nostradamus. As a Filipino American, he has spent years exploring the intersection of corporate culture and cultural identity in contemporary America. He loves exploring authentic ethnic restaurants, experimenting with traditional Filipino and other Asian recipes, and listening to stories of Filipino Americans as they navigate their identities in modern America. His return to the Philippines inspires Adobo in the Land of Milk and Honey after an absence that seemed like an eternity. His journey of reconnecting with Filipino culture and rediscovering his Filipino identity is vividly depicted in the novel, lending it an authentic and unique flavor. After publishing the Adobo novel, he revisited his first, Not My Bowl Of Rice. Maybe it was for inspiration, clarity, or to see how his writing has evolved. He re-read it and realized, the way most authors do when re-reading their novels, how melodramatic the plot is—a rollercoaster of emotions featuring passionate love, intense rivalries, death, rebirth, dramatic betrayals, unexpected twists culminating in a triumphant ending, all while reflecting the cultural nuances and values of my country of origin. And the recipes, oh, the recipes of the Filipino dishes featured. They read like intricate plotlines with unexpected revelations! "And so it hit me!~ I wanna re-imagine my debut hybrid as a Telenovela in Book form. But there is an element lacking—the optics, as GenZs call it. So I added images of characters, places, and food! And from that, my new version of my first literary work is reborn. Not My Bowl Of Rice: Graphic Telenovela-Style Novel and Cookbook! P.S. As a bonus, I wrote several stories about our famous Aswang/Manananggal, a mythical creature from the Philippine folklore that can split its body in two at the waist and fly at night to feed on pregnant women and their unborn children."
