Ghosts

Plagued by memories like

thick phlegm

I can hardly breathe

My words come out warped

That thick weight sitting on my chest

My breaths come up shallow

Racked with guilt and sorrow

Each breath draws in

Translucent faces of phantoms

Transposed on the living

Head of blonde

Lopsided smile

Wilted green dress

Blue Hawaiian shirt

Chipped painted nails

Ghosts burning on glimpses

That shoot through my heart

But someday I’ll wake up from my dreams

and remember I’m alive

And they are too
