Father: I follow Hat Thor.
Daughter: You’re worshiping Hathor the cow goddess? Well at least she’s an ethos!
Father: No no no, he’s a god! There’s no women gods! Hat Thor! Like Thor but extra! With a hat!
Daughter: Hathor is a goddess. An Ancient Egyptian goddess. Cow goddess with cow’s horns. Dates back to the days before Egypt was unified. Even before the Sahara was a desert.
Father: Egypt was always a desert!
Daughter: Egypt in ancient times defined itself as NOT being the desert. The People of the Nile. Desert people were not Egyptian. You could come from anywhere and so long as you embraced the culture of the people of the Nile, you were Egyptian. Their greatest disgust was when social order broke down to the level that desert-dwellers came along with impunity and dangled their feet in the life-giving Nile.
Father: is already gone. Through the screened door, his angry back, lumbering away.
Daughter: Don’t get me started on the African Humid Period.
