Don’t lose the good.

It has felt semi fraudulent to write these days. Mainly because finding words to describe the madness that is coming can be physically painful. Sitting down to write this is daunting in the sense, maybe it will be the last time I can write anything of true value. That may be the deepest heartbreak of all. I have thought consistently about the “right” thing to say. How to galvanize others to see reason, implore them to accept fact and decency. It feels like you are trying to instruct a toddler not to touch a hot stovetop, but they will not learn until the burn sets in.

I am not afraid of the chaos. I am not afraid of greed and ignorance, unfortunately they have always existed in America. I am afraid for my nieces and nephews who may never know a world without hatred and otherism. I am afraid for everyone who will keep trying to create reason with the senseless in the world. I am afraid for all who wake up and feel less safe than they did on November 5th.

Understanding that fear leads to anger helps me examine mine. I know that the worst of my anger is yet to come. My anger has grown watching the masses inflict injustice and claim it does not happen. I know this will be a theme for the coming year, if not years. And knowing how to stop this is so simple, yet so many weak people endorse it, support it, and will thrive in this. The constant conversations of “we need help in the fight,” is it not exhausting to live in a never-ending fight? My mind goes over the ways the world could be without the never-ending fighting. We are not the first generations to live this way, I do not believe we will be the last. I could weep for nostalgia of an easier time, but I cannot locate that either. Trying to remember a point where the world was not vitriolic towards some idea or faction of people proves a bit lost.

I am so broken hearted for the good people in the world. Not the nice or the seemingly well-mannered or the everyday individual, for the good. The people who do nothing but try and help. The people who are kind for no reason. The givers. The wont stop fighters. The educators. The truth-tellers. The people who live their lives aloud and bring others joy along the way. The ones who beam light into the world.

I assume I am writing this for them. To say that you are seen. That those of us who see genuine goodness will continue to be there. We will continue to fight for what’s right in the world, for as long as we can. Please do not let the clouds take away your light. We need it now more than ever. You are the best of us. Please do not forget that as the ignorant in the world try to dim your joy, your fight, your goodness. We all need goodness now more than ever.

  1. Yess! I totally agree with you! This world is already chaotic why add more to it?? We need more kindness and compassion in this world.
I’m new to this website but I grasp the courage to try to make a change in this world even if it takes years and years but I believe we can. I say don’t ever stop writing it can’t be fraudulent if you wrote it. I wish you the best of vibes!
