Swimming in the Sky

“Dude, check it out!”

“Woah. Where did you get that?”

“My dad gave it to me.”

“That’s awesome. Your dad is so awesome.”

“You want some?”

“You sure?”

“Yeah. No big. We have like a bunch of these at home so I can basically have it anytime I want.”

“That’s so cool.”

“Here. Take a sip.”

“Oh.”

“What do you think?”

“Oh. Um. It’s, uh, it’s really good.  Yeah. I really like it. “

“Yeah?”

“Here, you can have it back now.”

“No, that’s okay you can keep it.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“. . . Awesome.”

“Wanna see something else?”

“Sure.”

“Woah. Dude. Is that . . .”

“Yeah.”

“How much is there?”

“Like probably close to a million dollars, I think.”

“Woah. Where did you get it?”

“You wanna know what I’m gonna buy with it?”

“What?”

“I’m gonna buy a boat.”

“A boat?”

“A boat.”

“Where are you gonna get a boat?”

“Mr. Peterson’s got that boat he never uses. I was thinking maybe I could buy it off of him.”

“That’s so awesome.”

“I know.”

“What do you even do with a boat?”

“All sorts of things. You can live in it, and take it on adventures, and have parties and stuff. But you know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna go sail the world. I’m gonna travel the high seas. You ever been to the ocean?”

“No.”

“My mom used to take me to the ocean all the time. The air tastes like salt there. And it’s like basically the coolest thing ever.”

“I wanna go to the ocean.”

“You can come with me! And we’ll sail together, all the way to the horizon, and then when we reach the edge, we can just keep on sailing up into the sky.”

“Can you sail in the sky?”

“Yeah, cause it’s blue.”

“Oh yeah, you’re right.”

“And when we get tired, we’ll hop onto the clouds and swim around the shores.”

“Take a dip in the little dipper!”

“And when we get hungry, we’ll fish for stars.”

“And when we get cold, we can put on Orion’s belt.”

“What?”

“Orion’s belt.”

“What is that?”

“It’s like a star thing. A constellation.”

“Belts aren’t very warm.”

“Yeah, no sorry, it didn’t make sense.”

“That’s okay. Maybe we can go to the sun if we get cold.”

“Oh yeah, totally.”

“It’s gonna be awesome. You and me. Swimming in the sky.”

“Is your dad gonna come?”

“My dad?”

“Yeah.”

“Uh. No. Probably not. His job is like super important.”

“Oh yeah. That makes sense.”

“It’s hot out here. You wanna go in?”

We can’t go in there anymore.”

“What do you mean?”

“Like, we just don’t go in there anymore. It’s not cool.”

“Oh. Okay. Yeah. Totally.”

“Yeah. Totally.”

“Are you gonna finish that?”

“This? Uh. No, probably not.”

“Do you mind if I . . .”

“Of course. Here.”

“Thanks.”

“No problem.”
