There’s evil twins and doppelgangers and the dark, uncanny specters in the other-sides of mirrors that betray their otherness with the occasional malevolent wink at one’s own unblinking eyes, and all that. But that’s not how any of this works. It’s both more banal and pervasive than any of that.
