Turned To Tin 6/26/26
Did you hear it?
The lock
The tug on the chains to make sure it’s secured
The swallow that carried the key
And the drop in the pit of my stomach
I’ve heard it before
And now I rattle when I move
Full of keys from time and time again
From the one who was once your safety now turned to a harmful force
Or the one that begged for you to confide in them just for them to pass the knife sentencing your death as a joke
What about the ones that never showed
Or the one that promised to pick you but did they ever really, who truly knows?
The metal clinks and tinks gather to my chest
As if I were a tin man wondering why they can’t feel
when they’ve exchanged their heart for something that makes sense versus something that feels real.
But the memory still holds place
And where there was once love are now wretched aches
Partly from the wounds that mold this flesh to tin
But mainly from the uncertainty of how to revert back within
